What did the quotes you never answered cost last month?

The missed quote calculator takes four numbers you already know, requests a week, the share that went unanswered, your win rate and your average margin per job, and shows what unanswered requests cost you each month, with the arithmetic in full. Nothing is stored unless you ask us to count your real inbox, which is free discovery: one mailbox, one week, one page back.

The calculator

How does the arithmetic work?

Unanswered requests are the requests you received multiplied by the share that got no reply. Jobs lost are the unanswered requests multiplied by your win rate, on the assumption that an unanswered request was as likely to become a job as an answered one. Margin lost is jobs lost multiplied by your average margin per job. The monthly figure is the weekly figure times 52 weeks divided by 12 months. Nothing else is in it: no growth assumption, no compounding, no projection.

Where do the inputs come from?

From a week of your own inbox. Count the emails that asked for a price. Count the ones that got a reply. Your win rate is in your quoting system or your accountant's year-end; your margin per job is the one number every owner knows. If you would rather not count by hand, free discovery does it: we connect to one mailbox, read a week, and send you one page with the real numbers.

Is the win rate on unanswered requests really the same?

Probably not, and the calculator is honest about it. Some unanswered requests were tire-kickers who would never have bought. Others were your best customers, who stopped sending after the second silence and whose next year of requests never arrived at all. The first makes the number too high; the second makes it too low by more. Use your own judgement on the win rate input, and remember the calculator counts only the requests it can see.

What the calculator does not know

Seasonality: a carrier's March is not its August. Repeat business: a customer lost to silence costs more than one job. Duplicates: two people answering the same request is a cost the calculator does not count, because it is time rather than margin. And the cost of slow replies that did eventually go out, which discovery measures and this page does not.
